Method and apparatus for bending and quenching, by which the glass sheets are heated to the bending temperature in a horizontal furnace and are then bent to the desired shape by pressing between a solid upper bending former and an annular lower former which also serves as a support for the bent sheet in the quenching station where the bent sheets are cooled by blasting with cold air, the lower former employed having a continuous bending surface. In the quenching station the glazing is raised by locally acting means and the blasting operation is then finished in this raised position. <IMAGE>
