MODIFICATION OF ANIMAL HAIR FIBER

PURPOSE:To modify an animal hair fiber and obtain a bulky hair yarn, etc., by pretreating an animal hair fiber with a cross-linking cleavage agent and subsequently treating the pretreated fiber with an over-shrinkage agent. CONSTITUTION:An animal hair fiber is pretreated with a crosslinking cleavage agent to cleave its disulfide linkages and the pretreated fiber is treated with an over-shrinkage agent to fix an over-shrinkage. The pretreated animal hair fiber is sufficiently water-washed and subsequently treated with an over- shrinkage agent to obtain 30-40% shrinkage in general based on the length of the raw animal hair fiber. A bulky hair yarn useful especially as a raw material yarn of a light-weight bulky clothing can be obtained.
