PURPOSE:To completely remove scent components by extracting the antioxidant component from a dried scent herb with an org. solvent such as methanol, washing the extract with hot water at 70-100 deg.C and then treating the washed material in a supercritical extractor. CONSTITUTION:The dried scent herb such as rosemary and sage is crushed, and the crushed material is treated with a polar org. solvent such as methanol, ethanol and acetone, appropriately ethanol from the standpoint of food sanitation, to extract the antioxidant component. The obtained extract is washed with hot water at 70-100 deg.C to remove the water-soluble component, and an oil-soluble antioxidant component is obtained. The oil-soluble antioxidant component is then treated in a supercritical extractor with carbon dioxide as a fluid to completely remove the remaining scent components. The obtained antioxidant is utilized for the animal oil such as lard and milk fat and for the vegetable oil such as soybean oil and cone oil. |
