PURPOSE:To prevent the retraction of the meniscus in a recording head at the time of capping and to eliminate the leakage of ink from the suction port of a cap by providing an ink absorbing body to the flow path of waste ink in the cylinder constituting the suction pump in a recovery apparatus. CONSTITUTION:A waste ink absorbing body is inserted in the waste ink pipe 24g of a cylinder 24 by the length l1 thereof. The waste ink absorbing body 37 is one composed of polyester fibers arranged in parallel and does not invade in the ink flow path 24h of the cylinder 24 by the insertion of the waste ink pipe 24g. Therefore, the absorbing body 44 in the cylinder 44 is embedded in the ink flow path 24h and ink is always absorbed in and hold to the ink absorb ing body 44 in the cylinder without allowing only the ink to be present in the ink flow path 24h. The ink held to the absorbing body moves to the waste ink absorbing body 37 by the close contact of the end surface 44a of the absorb ing body in the cylinder with the waste ink absorbing body 37. Therefore, the absorbing body 44 in the cylinder can always absorb the ink without being saturated with the ink and the remaining of the ink in a pump means is prevented. |
