A vacuum roll for a paper handling machine, such as is used in interfolding paper machinery, is described in which an outer rotating roll member rotates around an internally coaxial static vacuum feed and control means. Both the length of time for which vacuum is applied, and the part of the circle of rotation over which it is applied, can be varied from outside the machine and whilst the machine is running.
