A plastics protective coated optical fibre suitable for use with non-intrusive taps by means of which optical power may be coupled into or out of the fibre intermediate its ends is provided with a Fresnel reflection reducing layer (12a) of thickness 0.2 - 3.0 mu m intermediate the optical cladding (11) of the fibre (10) and its plastics protective coating (12).
