Dialkoxyketone derivs of formula (I) are new. In (I) R1 = 1-13C alkyl; R2 and R3 are each H, 1-4C alkyl; R4, R5, R6, R7 and R8 are each H, halogen, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C haloalkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, 1-4C alkylthio, 1-4C haloalkoxy, 1-4C haloalkylthio, Ph (opt. substd. by halogen, 1-4C alkyl or 1-4C alkoxy), or 2 neighbouring gps R4, R5, R6, R7 and R8 form a 3-5C alkylene chain opt. substd. by 1-4C alkyl or an opt. substd. annellated aromatic ring; m and n = each 0 or 1; provided that if R4 or R8 = 1-4C alkoxy, R5 or R7 = 1-4C alkylthio, R6 = halogen, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy or Ph, R5 and R6 or R6 and R7 = 1-4C alkoxy, R4, R6 and R8 = halogen and R4, R6 and R7 or R5, R6 and R8 = halogen, and m and n are both 0, not all the other gps on the Ph ring are H; and provided that m and n are both 0, not all R4 = R8 are H.
