A grinding member for use particularly in ball mills comprises zircon particles having a particle specific surface area within the range 10,000 to 40,000 cm<2>/gm combined with a binder. The binder may include one or more of clay, talc, limestone, rutile barium carbonate, barium sulphate, alumina and an organic binder. The grinding member is especially suitable for use in the manufacture of zircon opacifiers, where the problem of contamination of the grinding material with the grinding member is mitigated. |
