PURPOSE:To improve the brake application performance by the engine brake by selecting the speed change stage having the speed change ratio larger than that in the speed change state selected on the basis of the traveling condition, when deceleration state or brake application state is detected. CONSTITUTION:Each speed change gear is selected according to the traveling condition data 12 such as car speed and throttle opening degree and outputted. When deceleration state is not detected or the brake application state is not detected, a speed change stage selecting means 13 selects a prescribed speed change stage on the basis of the traveling condition and outputs the speed change stage, and if a traveling state detecting means 11 detects deceleration state or brake application state, the speed change stage having the larger speed change ratio than that in the speed change stage selected in nondeceleration state or nonbrake application state is selected, and a speed change stage setting means 14 performs output so that the selected speed change stage is set. Since the speed change ratio in deceleration or brake application increases over the speed change ratio in the ordinary traveling, the effectiveness of the engine brake can be improved. |
