PURPOSE:To allow the exact control of the spacing between substrates to a constant spacing by spraying fine particles for spacing control having adhesiveness to the substrates on the lower substrate and adhering and fixing the fine particles for spacing control to the lower substrate while pressing the fine particles with a pressing plate which has no adhesion to the fine particles. CONSTITUTION:The fine particles for spacing control coated with an adhesive resin on the surface are sprayed on the lower substrate for constituting the cell of the liquid crystal display element. The fine particles for spacing control are adhered and fixed to the lower substrate by pressing the fine particles thereto under heating by the pressing plate having no adhesiveness to the fine particles. A sheet consisting of, for example, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), steel sheet coated with the PTFE and glass sheet are adequately usable for the pressing sheet. The fine particles are, therefore, stably held adhered to the lower substrate even if the liquid crystal display element is bent or oscillated, and the fine particles do not peel or move.
