Struts and links of U=shaped cross=section - form umbrella frame which can be folded into very compact shape

The frame of an umbrella consistsa of an inner strut (30) and an inner connecting link (50), both of which are connected to a middle connectingm link (60) which has one end attached to a middle strut (70). The inner strut (30), the inner link (50) and the middle link (60), all have U-shaped cross-section with the opening facing upwards. A flexible connecting link (71) has one end which fits between the flanges of the inner connecting link and is secured by a pin. The use of U-shape cross-sections for the struts and links enables the umbrella to be folded to a very compact shape. USE - Umbrellas.
