PRODUCTION OF L-TYROSINE

PURPOSE:To efficiently produce L-tyrosine by adding phenol to L- or D, L-serine and reacting phenol with L- or D.L-serine in the presence of beta-tyrosinase- containing bacterium cell treated with a pyridoxal phosphate-containing aqueous solution. CONSTITUTION:beta-Tyrosinase-containing bacterium cell or treated material thereof is previously treated by suspending the above-mentioned bacterium cell or treated material thereof in 0.00005-0.1wt.% pyridoxal phosphate-containing aqueous solution (having about pH7-9), allowing the suspension to stand at about 4-30 deg.C for about 30min to 2hr. Phenol is subjected to enzymatic reaction with L or D.L-serine or pyruvic acid or salt thereof and ammonia or salt thereof in the presence of the pre-treated beta-tyrosinase containing bacterium cell. Thereby L-tyrosine can be produced in high yield from phenol and L or D.L-serine.
