The optical heterodyne receiver uses a local laser (LL) providing a laser beam which is combined with the received coherent light, before being fed to a photoelectric detector (D). The laser light is circularly polarised and coincides with the polarisation of the received light to obtain automatic polarisation regulation. Pref. a circularly polarised filter (F) is inserted in the light path between the laser (LL) and the optical coupler (K) for combining the laser light with the received light.
