The adsorption system for the separation of gases comprises active carbon, a heating arrangement and a coolant, whereby the active carbon is arranged in a tube bundle (11) having an annular cross-section located within a heat insulated vessel (2). A cylindrical coil for the coolant is fitted concentrically to the tube bundle (12), whilst an electric heating arrangement (14) is provided in the centre of vertical tube bundle (12) and/or coil (13). Tube bundle (12) is subjected to a horizontally directed recirculation gas flow, whereby pressure loss across tube bundle (12) is at least twice, pref. ten times higher than that loss in remaining gas recirculation circuit.
