METHOD OF OPTICALLY ACTIVE (+) 2-ETHYL CHLOROPROPIONATE PREPARATION

The (+) ethyl-2-chloropropionate is prepared by chlorination of (-)-ethyl lactate in the pyridine environment. The chlorination is performed by gradual addition of stoichiometric amount of thionyl chloride at the temperature of 60 degrees C. The (+) ethyl-2-chloropropionane is one of the source substances for preparation of liquid crystal of p-hexyloxybenzylidene-p'-amino 2-chloropropyl-cinnamate, known under the HOBACPC abbreviation.
