General process for disinfecting water, be it water from sanitary installations of the sink, siphon or drain type, water employed in food applications as drinking water, as well as water for dilution and rinsing for disinfecting surfaces and floors, of the type employing sodium hypochlorite as active agent, characterised in that it consists in forming hypochlorite in situ, the excess being then decomposed to water and free oxygen. The invention also relates to the redox systems for making use of the process.
