A control system for a liftable auxiliary axle samples axle load measurements, and responds with adjustments based on an average value for axle load taken over a number of samples. A pressure measuring system samples multiple sources, recalibrating itself between samplings. Further features provide the system with verification and fail-safe procedures, as well as protection against operator subversion.
