This method relates to the regulation of a heating installation comprising a heat generator of the electric type (1) associated or not associated with at least one heat generator of the fuelled type (2) inserted in the same circuit (3) of fluid to be heated. The electric generator (1) includes a plurality of power stages, and regulation is carried out by a thermostat (11) which compares the temperature measured by a probe (12) with datum temperatures (Tinf, Tm, Tsup), and which controls the triggering or release of the stages of the electric generator (1), in succession, if necessary in combination with switching on or stopping the fuel generator (2). Depending on the conditions, engagement or release of the stages of the electric generator (1) in succession is controlled either at a "slow" speed for normal rise or drop in power or at an "accelerated" speed for fast rise or drop in power. <IMAGE>
