PURPOSE:To perform the mass culture of chlorella at a low cost as well as the utilization of whey by using, as organic carbon source, a lactase-treated product from whey which is produced by degrading the lactose in the whey into glucose and galactose using a lactase. CONSTITUTION:Using, as organic carbon source, whey treated with a lactase (e.g. beta-galactosidase), chlorella is aerobically incubated in a medium containing said carbon source. For the enzymatic treatment of the whey, it is preferable in view of e.g. the higher degradation rate for the lactose that the treatment be advanced simultaneously with the chlorella incubation by adding the lactase to the whey-contg. medium. |
