A sample collected at the inlet of the reactor (1) is fed to a first measuring cell (5) of a single-beam NDIR gas analyser (6), a sample collected simultaneously at the outlet of the reactor (1) is fed to a second measuring cell (5') behind the first, and the combined measured signal is stored. One of the measuring cells is then rinsed and the concentration of the component in the sample concerned is calculated from the measured signal of the other cell. By subtraction from the stored combined measurement, the concentration in the first cell can be calculated. The invention is used in exhaust gas measuring devices.
