PURPOSE:To easily reduce the friction coefficient of a disk in operation of a disk storage device by rotating a disk whose surface is covered by means of a carbon protective film at the speed of <=10 cm/second in a state in contact with a head. CONSTITUTION:A low film 13 and an upper film 14, both of which are composed of transition metal or the alloy, are provided for two layers as magnetic recording medium on the surface of the substrate 11 of the disk 10 through a ground film 12 composed of nickel, etc. Then, the disk 10 is rotated at the speed of <=10 cm/second, preferably, <=0.3 cm/second, in the state where the head 20 is brought into contact with the disk 10 whose surface is covered by the carbon protective film 15. Thus, carbon is selectively retransferred from the head 20 to an activated edge surface in a carbon film surface where the friction coefficient is increased and the non-activation of the edge surface is promoted. Thus, the friction coefficient can be reduced in a short time even if the friction coefficient of the disk 10 is considerably deteriorated. |
