Receptor web material such as paper or fabric is coated on one side with insulating liquid such as hydrocarbon, before its opposite side reaches an electrode stylus bar opposite a supply source of electrically conductive colorant liquid which is caused to pierce the insulating layer by the electric field and print colour patterns on the receptor web. Pref. the stylus bar carries multiple aligned or staggered stylus, opposite a conductive liquid supply fountain for aq. dye soln. or sublimable dye, the electrode stylii being individually energisable.
