PURPOSE: To prepare an alkoxylating catalyst by reacting a catalyst precursor compsn. obtained from a IIIB group metal-contg. comps. with a divalent or polyvalent oxy acid, or a divalent or polyvalent metallic salt of the oxy acid. CONSTITUTION: A IIIB group metal-contg. compd. is mixed with an activator expressed by the formula I (X and Y denote each O, N, S or P, (a) and b denote each an integer which satisfies a valency requirement, Q is an electrically positive or neutral org. group corresponding to X or Y, Z and Z' denote each hydrogen or an org. group), to obtain a IIIB group metal-contg. comps. having an alkalinity. The IIIB group metal-contg. compsn. is reacted with a divalent or polyvalent metal-contg. compsn., to form a catalyst precursor compsn. Then, the catalyst precursor compsn. is reacted with a divalent or polyvalent oxy acid, or a divalent or polyvalent metallic salt of the oxy acid under specified conditions, to prepare an alkoxylating catalyst. |
