Fluorine-containing polyimide comprising repeating units of formula (I): <CHEM> wherein <CHEM> is the tetravalent residue of a tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride, Rf is a group -CnF2n-1 in which n is an integer of 6 to 12, which contains one double bond and which may be straight or branched and Ph is a benzene ring optionally bearing one or more further substituents and related polyamide acid precursor are produced by reacting appropriate acid anhydrides with aromatic diamines containing perfluoroalkyl groups.
