PROCESS FOR INLAYING GRAPHIC IN MOLDED PRODUCT

A process for making a mold with a reference grid visible through a transparent protective gel coat coating and a process for using the mold to inlay a graphic in a synthetic resin casting for the like. The processes provide for positioning a film sheet having transparent pressure sensitive adhesive on one side thereof and fixing the film sheet by causing the adhesive to adhere thereby securing the film sheet to prevent dislocation during application of a matrix. The resulting mold has a graphical reference grid precisely positioned and inlaid in the mold between a transparent gel coat and a colored opaque gel coat. Such mold is used for the detailed reproduction of inlaid graphic castings. The resulting casting has graphics precisely positioned with respect to one another inlaid in a homogeneous product between a transparent gel coat and a desired matrix. The process allows for such castings to be repetitively manufactured so that all identical parts are exactly reproduced.
