NEW MATERIAL:A cyclopentane derivative of formula I (B is nucleic acid base derivative; R is H, substituted acyl, substituted or unsubstituted phosphoric acid group or protecting group). EXAMPLE:(+)-(3S, 4S)-3,4-Bis(hydroxymethyl)-1-methylene cyclopentane. USE:Useful as a drug such as an antiviral agent or carcinostatic agent. PREPARATION:A compound of formula II (X is a releasable group) is made to react with a nucleic acid base derivative, e.g. a compound of formula III (Y<1> is H, NHR); Y<2> is H, NHR, OR<1>; R<1> is benzyl, 1-5C lower alkyl, etc.,) preferably in an equivalent ratio of 1:(1-5) in the presence of a basic catalyst in a solvent at 0 deg.C - the reflux temperature of the solvent. When having a protecting group or an easily releasable substituent, the prepared compound is, if desired, subjected to a protecting group-removing treatment, etc., to provide to compound of formula I. |
