PURPOSE:To prepare a synthetic rubber foam which has an excellent tensile strength, shows little long-term shrinkage, and is suitable for the use requiring a high dimensional stability by foaming a chlorosulfonated ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer. CONSTITUTION:Ethylene and an alpha-olefin (e.g. propylene) are copolymerized and the resulting copolymer is allowed to react with chlorine and sulfur dioxide to give a chlorosulfonated ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer. The copolymer is compounded with a blowing agent (e.g. azodicarbonamide), a filler (e.g. carbon black), a softener (e.g. a paraffinic process oil), a vulcanizing agent (e.g. dipentamethylenethiuram tetrasulfide), etc., and the resulting compsn. is thermally foamed to give a synthetic rubber foam, which is suitably used for a gasket, a printing roll, etc. |
