The workpieces are fed along the process line on rollers set in side rails (11). Each workstation has a spindle drive (2) underneath, with a groove (4) in the spindle engaging a follower (3) under each workpiece. The spindle aligns each workpiece and holds it during the process. To isolate any workstation, the spindle is moved out of contact with the follower. This is achieved by displacing the spindle orthogonally to its axis, using a threaded adjuster (15), or by lowering the spindle drive, using adjusting wedges.
