The door of a motor vehicle is held in the open position by a stay (1). The end of this stay is fastened to the vehicle structure (6) by two lugs (5) and a pin (12). This pin (12) is retained by a sleeve (3) which passes through holes in the lugs (5) and through a hole in the stay (1). This sleeve (3) has three equally spaced tongues (8) cut in its wall with the free ends of the tongues projecting radially inwards. The pin (12) has a circumferential groove (13) and when the pin (12) is inserted into the sleeve (3) the tongues (8) spring radially inwards to engage the groove (13) and hole the pin in place.
