Longitudinal zone press in a paper machine which has a rotating press roll 1 and a slide shoe 2 lying against roll 1 and parallel to its shaft and a loading device 7 to load the slide shoe 2 against roll 1. According to the invention slide shoe 2 and loading device 7 are formed as a single assembled structure, in which the load device 7 has pistons 11a, 11b functioning with a pressurized fluid, whose rods pass from the body 8 of load device 7 downward to the surface of the base 14 positioned downward on the load device and the load device 7 has two rows of pistons 11a, 11b so that the load pressure pattern between slide shoe 2 and roll 1 can be varied by controlling the pressure acting on pistons 11a, 11b. <IMAGE>
