PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst decomposing nitrogen oxide with high activity and excellent in the lasting properties of activity by adding a copper ion to mordenite type zeolite whose SiO2/Al2O3 mol ratio is specific. CONSTITUTION:As a nitrogen oxide decomposing catalyst, mordenite type zeolite whose SiO2/Al2O3mol ratio is 20-100 is used. An aqueous solution of a copper salt such as copper acetate or copper nitrate is brought into contact with this mordenite type zeolite to form copper ion exchange type zeolite. The catalyst thus obtained can efficiently decompose nitrogen oxide in nitrogen oxide- containing gas to make said gas harmless and is enhanced in the lasting properties of activity and can be used over long period of time even in the coexistence of steam. |
