PURPOSE:To apply a signal from outside and also guides the light out without cutting an optical fiber by applying ultrasonic wave vibration which is modulated with an FM or AM signal, etc., from outside the optical fiber wherein polarized light is transmitted, and varying the polarized state of the polarized light. CONSTITUTION:A single-unit fiber is used and the polarized light is passed through the optical fiber 1 from a light source 2; and this optical fiber 1 is applied with the ultrasonic wave vibration which is modulated with an analog signal such as an FM and an AM signal or a digital PCM signal by a signal applying device 3. Therefore, the polarization state of the polarized light transmitted in the optical fiber 1 such as the angle and phase of the main axis of the polarized light varies and the variation of the plane of polarization is transmitted to a reception end. Consequently, the signal can be applied into the optical fiber 1 without cutting the optical fiber 1. |
