The learning assembly is equipped with a unit (14) for displaying learning sequences, the unit being controlled by a central unit (16), and a driving station (1) the various members of which are associated with sensors. The driving station is that of a vehicle in an operating state, installed fixedly in suitable premises and the engine of which is started up within the scope of the learning sequences. Depending on real driving conditions which it is desired to reproduce, the central unit (13) acts on a servomechanism (53) associated with the lever for controlling the injection pump of the engine and on a mechanism for driving and slowing down (45) acting by means of a roller (47) on one of the driving wheels of the vehicle, which wheel is raised with respect to the ground. Depending on the nature of the error committed by the pupil within the scope of the exercise which he is carrying out, the method allows the corresponding correction sequence to be displayed, these sequences being recorded on an audiovisual medium and read by a player (playback device) (16) with which the viewing unit (14) is equipped. <IMAGE>
