PURPOSE:To increase charging efficiency by containing zinc oxide whiskers comprising nuclei and needle crystal, extending in the different four axes direction from the nuclei, in an active material. CONSTITUTION:Metallic zinc powder is put into an alumina crucible, then they are put into a furnace and heated. Block zinc oxide is formed in the lower layer in the crucible and zinc oxide whiskers 4 comprising nuclei and needle crystals extending in the different four axes direction from the nuclei are formed in its upper layer. The zinc oxide whiskers 4 are contained in an active material 3 layer. The conductivity and mechanical strength are increased in the all directions and the electrical contact resistance in a negative plate is decreased. Oxygen gas absorbing capability is increased and gas pressure within a battery is decreased. Charging efficiency is increased. |
