The invention describes a watermelon (Citrullus Vulgaris Schard)variety approved under the name of "De Dabuleni", obtained by individual selection with a single choice from the Charleston Gray variety; it is designed for fresh consumption and grown in all the areas favourable to watermelon culture, especially in the sandy soils of the south of the country. This variety is characterized by highly vigorous, unisexual, monoical plants, a vine with maximum development of 2.8 m, big leaves of 18.6 cm length and 18.5 cm width, oval fruit, skin of 1.0 - 1.2 cm average thickness, dark rose, well textured pulp, high quality taste, big seeds of 9-12mm length, 7mm width and 2mm thickness, normal shape and brown pigmented colour. This variety has a vegetation period of 90-95 days, very good resistance to angular leaf spot(Pseudomonas lachrymans), bacterial wilt (Envinia tracheiphila), downy mildew (Pseudoperonospora cubensis), powdery mildew (Erysiphe cichoraceanum) and good resistance to anthracnose (Colletotrichum oligochaetum); it has good capacity of production averaging 30-42.7 t/ha, with 15-25% early production.
