PURPOSE:To obtain the objective compound by producing 2,2,4,4,6- pentamethyl-2,3,4,5,-tetrahydropyrimidine from acetone or acidic condensate of acetone and ammonia in the presence of an iron carboxylic acid salt catalyst and separating the product in purified state by salting-out. CONSTITUTION:(A) Acetone or acetone and acidic condensate of acetone is made to react with (B) ammonia in the presence of 0.1-1mol% (based on the component A) of an iron carboxylic acid salt catalyst at 10-25 deg.C for 5-10hr to obtain 2,2,4,4,6-pentamethyl-2,3,4,5-tetrahydropyrimidine(acetonine). The catalyst is separated by filtration and the reaction product is salted out. The upper layer liquid obtained by the salting-out is made to react with acetone in the presence of an iron carboxylic acid salt catalyst at 50-60 deg.C to produce triacetonamine. The carboxylic acid constituting the catalyst is preferably acetic acid, lactic acid, oxalic acid, citric acid, etc. The objective compound free from halide can be produced by the above process by the proper selection of the solvent and the catalyst and the process is advantageous from the viewpoint of facilities and apparatus. |
