Acceleration sensor e.g. for vehicle safety systems - has position sensor for displacement of weight from stop by opposite auxiliary acceleration

An acceleration sensor for determining the existence of a constant acceleration contains a weight which rests on a stop if the constant acceleration is present. The weight is subjected to a second acceleration which is opposite to the constant acceleration to be determined and considerably smaller and is independent of the motion of the weight. A position sensor responds to a position of the weight when it is displaced from the stop by the second acceleration. USE/ADVANTAGE - E.g. for use in motor vehicle safety equipment. The acceleration sensor enables precise detection of the presence or absence of a constant acceleration at low mechanical cost.
