The brake light has a conventional construction and is operated by the brake pressure switch as in a normal setup. The additional light sources are spaced about the construction to give an additional lighting effect for various brake conditions, i.e. to provide information to the following driver on the degree of braking/retardation. The additional lights can be in the form of a lighting band embedded in the lens structure. They can also be operated without the brakes applied, i.e. to provide information on retardation. ADVANTAGE - Improved safety, following drivers given prior warning of retardation/braking.
