PURPOSE:To improve the efficient utilization of a storage device by accessing a storage means stored with variable-length musical sound waveform data with addresses including an area indicating data length. CONSTITUTION:An F number corresponding to a generated pitch frequency is supplied from an F number generating circuit 15 to an accumulator 16 according to operation on a keyboard 11 and an address signal CA is outputted to a data fetching and reproduction part 20. A parameter data generating circuit 18 is supplied with touch data TD and timbre data TN selected with a timbre selecting operating element 12 and an adder 21 is adds output data length specification data SA to said signal CA to generate an address signal AD with necessary bit length, thereby accessing the waveform memory 10 of a ROM stored with the variable-length musical sound waveform data with the address signal AD. Then read waveform data from the memory 10 are processed by a reproduction part 20, a compressed data demodulating circuit 23, etc., to output a musical sound signal. Thus, the variable-length data are used to decrease the number of storage elements which are wasted unnecessarily and improve the storage efficiency. |
