The parts are lifted from the container by a pneumatically-powered gripper unit under the control of sensors (e.g. 38a). The container is vibrated while grippers (40) are lowered into it so that their forks (41) engage the parts to be lifted. The sepn. is performed by a lever (43) pivoted about a horizontal axis (43a). The free end of the lever drives a vertical slider (44) to press upon a gripped part and to guide it out of the downwardly tapered fork.
