Suspensions for recondstruction of cell membranes are prepd. by (a) mixing phosphatidylcholine (PC) with a buffer soln.of a glycyrrhizate salt (GRS) to give a PC=GRS wt. ratio of 1:0.1-0.4, and (b) sonicating the mixt. of 4-10 deg. C. USE/ADVANTAGE - The suspensions are capable of repairing damaged cell membranes, as measured by inhibition of the inactivation of cytochrome P-450 in liver cells from rats poisoned with phenobarbital or heliotrin. They may be used in experimental biology and medicine, e.g. for normalising the detoxification function of the liver, normalising enzyme activity in the blood serum and increasing the survival rate of animals with toxic hepatitis.
