PURPOSE:To produce grained artificial marble having smooth appearance with depth by adding staple fiber pattering material having a specified specific gravity to a mixture, composed of an epoxy resin, curing agent, curing accelerator and filler and having a specified specific gravity, curing and forming the resultant mixture. CONSTITUTION:An epoxy resin is mixed with a curing agent, a curing accelerator and a filler to provide a mixture having >=1.5 specific gravity. One or more of silica, aluminum hydroxide and glass powder are suitable as the aforementioned filler and used in an amount of about 30-250 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. liquid component. A fibrous patterning material composed of staple fibers having <=1.3 specific gravity and <=10mm length is further added to the above-mentioned mixture. Inorganic or organic fiber such as glass or a polyester is used as the aforementioned patterning material and added in an amount of preferably about 0.005-0.1%. The resultant composition, as necessary, is blended with other additives, then cured and subsequently molded in a forming mold having the bottom force on the side of the product surface according to a cast molding method. Thereby, grained artificial marble having appearance excellent in transparency, moldability, low shrinkability and smoothness with depth is obtained. |
