Identification information or transaction information is read from a magnetic card 11A, bankbook 15A or bill 16A inserted by a customer, and a predetermined transaction is executed under the control of a microcomputer 21 using a customer unit 18. The result of the transaction is recorded on a removable recording media, eg an optical disk 20A, along with the identification information. The information from a card, bankbook or bill is optically read, eg by a laser scanner, and stored as image data in computer 21 before being recorded on the optical disc. Retrieval operation may be effected by an operator operating a keyboard 13a so that the required record is read out from the optical disc and displayed on unit 13b, a printed slip being issued through slot (6, Figure 1).
