<p>The invention relates to a coolant for aluminium foam or dross which is used in the separation and recovery of aluminium metal contained in the foam or dross which is formed when aluminium and aluminium alloys are melted. The coolant comprises some 40-60% by weight of a carbonaceous material, in which the particles of diameter 2 to 7 mm are not less than 50% by weight, and some 40- 60% by weight of at least obsidian, pearlite, vermiculite or natural pumice stone having a particle size of 2 to 7 mm in diameter. Alternatively, the coolant comprises some 20-50% by weight of the carbonaceous material, in which the particles of 2 to 7 mm in diameter are not less than 50% by weight, with some 20-50% by weight of at least obsidian, pearlite, vermiculite or natural pumice stone having a particle size of 2 to 7 mm in diameter, and not more than 30% by weight of at least SiC or metal oxides, such as Al, Si, Zr, Cr and Zn. Preferably the said carbonaceous material is at least coke or vegetable charcoal.</p> |
