NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by formula I (R<1> to R<3> are H or 1-4C alkyl). EXAMPLE:1-Propyl-2-ethyl-3-phenylindane. USE:A solvent for pressure-sensitive duplicating paper and a heat transfer oil. An intermediate for a fluid for traction drive. PREPARATION:A 1-aryl-2-butene shown by formula II is reacted in the presence of an acid catalyst (preferably 60-90wt.% sulfuric acid) in a solvent such as hexane at 40-100 deg.C for 2-5 hours to give a compound shown by formula I.
