The armchair has a positionally adjustable headrest (2) attached to the backrest (6) of the chair. The backrest (2) is attached at each side to a bracket (12) which is fastened to a plate (8) fixed to the side of the backrest. The fastening between bracket (12) and the plate (8) consists of four pivoted links (16, 18, 20, 22). These links (16, 18, 20, 22) control the movement of the headrest so that the covering of the upholstery is not stretched when the headrest is folded from its upper to its lower position.
