<p>PURPOSE:To selectively obtain the title compound useful as an intermediate for synthesizing beta-lactam derivatives as herbicides or antifungal agents by reaction in the presence of a combination of carbon monoxide, a base and a catalyst between a propargyl alcohol and a triorganosilane. CONSTITUTION:Firstly, under a carbon monoxide atmosphere, a rhodium catalyst [e.g. Rh4(CO)12] is added to a solvent (e.g. benzene) saturated with carbon monoxide, and the resulting solvent is cooled and put into a pressure vessel. Thence, under cooling, (A) a propargyl alcohol of formula I (R<1> and R<2> are each H or lower alkyl, or forming 5 to 7-membered aliphatic ring together with C), (B) a triorganosilane of formula II (Z<1>-Z<3> are each lower alkyl or phenyl) and (C) a tertiary amine (e.g. triethylamine) are introduced into this vessel followed by reaction under a carbon monoxide gas pressure of 5-60kgf/cm<2> at 30-250 deg.C, thus obtaining the objective beta-lactone derivative of formula III.</p> |
