A valve for a fluid pressure, load-regulated braking system for a vehicle comprises a spring- loaded valve member 1 interposed between a fluid inlet 3 and outlet 5, the spring 6 acting through an end-plate 8 and plunger 10 to urge valve member 1 away from its seat. Valve member 1 is closed at a braking pressure predetermined by the spring loading which is varied by the action of a rod 11. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the valve is mounted on a bracket 18 of the vehicle loading platform 27. A member 16 pivoted on the bracket at 17 engages at its end a bracket plate 28 of the vehicle axle. The member 16 also carries a spring-loaded pressure plate 13 which, when relative movement takes place between the axle and platform 27 due to loading, varies the pressure exerted on the rod 11 and thus the spring 6. A dashpot device 23, 24 and the spring 14 of the pressure plate 13 damp oscillations due to the vehicle moving over uneven ground. In a further embodiment (Figs. 5 to 9, not shown), the valve is secured to the chassis of the vehicle which has independent suspension. A spring-loaded telescopic member surrounding and secured to the compression tube of the suspension engages a stirrup member 54 (not shown) pivoted about the chassis, a tappet screw 52 (not shown) of the stirrup member 54 (not shown) engaging and actuating rod 11.</p> |
