This compound is used in the manufacture of synthetic fibres. It exhibits enhanced and durable flame-resistance properties and has the following general formula:<IMAGE>where M is calcium and x is a number ranging between 135 and 140. The method involves carrying out re-esterification of dimethyl terephtalate with ethylene glycol in the presence of a calcium salt of a monoethyl ester of the phosphorous acid, followed by polycondensation in selected conditions.
