Optical fibre junction - is held by sprung outer casing with V-grooves holding fibres by spring pressure

Two optical fibres (11) are joined in V shaped grooves (21) enclosing their ends and clamping their outer sheaths. As shown in cross-section the V groove is enclosed by a U shaped holder (209 with two springs (22) bearing on a clamp of triangular section (23). A U shaped outer casing (30) presses inwards forcing the springs downwards and holding the junction fast. The casing encloses and protects the junction from external damage. ADVANTAGE - Connection and outer casing are closed in single operation.
